Free Sudoku, six levels, no account

NewSudoku is a free online Sudoku game that runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or desktop. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for: open a level, and a fresh puzzle is already on the board.

Every puzzle is generated and then machine-solved before you see it, so each one has exactly one solution that can be reached by logic alone. You never have to guess and then backtrack.

What you get while you play

  • Pencil notes with one tap, so you can record candidates instead of guessing.
  • Undo for every move, including notes.
  • Hints that name the technique and walk through the reasoning step by step.
  • A mistake counter, a timer and a score, if you like playing against yourself.
  • Automatic save: close the tab mid-puzzle and the board is waiting when you come back.

The rules, in three sentences

A Sudoku grid is nine rows, nine columns and nine three-by-three boxes. Each of those twenty-seven units must end up holding the digits 1 to 9 exactly once.

The digits already on the board are the givens, and they never change. Everything else follows from them: if a digit cannot go anywhere else in a unit, that is where it goes.

Which level should you start with?

Easy and Medium are solved entirely with single candidates โ€” you will never need pencil marks to finish them. Hard introduces pairs and pointing candidates. Expert stacks several of those eliminations in a row. Master and Extreme require at least one genuinely advanced pattern, such as an X-Wing or an XY-Wing.

If you are not sure, start on Medium. If you finish it without opening Notes, move up.
